HCM ACTIVITIES/VALUE DRIVERS/OUTCOMES

A unique feature of the VB-HR™ Rating is how HCM activities (inputs), HCM value drivers, and HCM outcomes are combined to generate an overall assessment.

Activities are defined as 'actions intentionally carried out by HR and/or through line management that are designed to influence the management of people within the organisation'. As such they tend to fall into two categories: either (i) productivity enhancing, or (ii) compliance enforcing. Examples would include carrying out training/development; performance reviews; developing HR policies; conducting H&S audits etc.

HCM value drivers are a 'clustered group of HCM coompetencies that affect the organisational management/performance of human capital from the joint dimensions of effectiveness, maintenance, and risk.' Examples include Workforce Intelligence, HR Functional Capability, and HR Strategy.

HR outcomes are 'the measureable outputs that have been influenced or affected by the interaction of HCM activities, value drivers, and other organisational factors.' Examples could include absence rates, voluntary turnover, or alternatively the level of engagement of employees, competence of management etc.
